New Mexico’s Travis Regensberg and Brandon Muniz kicked-off day two of the Ariat World Series of Team Roping Title Fights (opens in a new tab) XI at Wickenburg, Arizona’s Rancho Rio (opens in a new tab) arena winning the average from second callback on Feb. 12, 2021.
Regensberg, 55, and Muniz, 27, knocked down their short round steer in the Title Fights XI #12.5 in 7.98 seconds to move them to first in the roping with a time of 30.49 seconds on four head, worth $36,620.
“I’m just glad we got him down,” said Muniz, who is the ranch manager at Z & T Cattle. “Travis spun a good one, we capitalized, and it just worked out. It’s always good to place, but to win is even better.”
Regensberg headed on a 9-year-old gelding, named Spider, which he purchased off of a friend three years ago.
“He was a problem horse and I kind of corrected him,” said Regensberg, who works as a general contractor. “He faces really well and rates flat. This is about the third big roping that I’ve taken him to. He’s come a long way and he gets better as time goes on.”
Muniz cracked out his buckskin mare, JY Bucky, who had been off for the past eight months due to abscesses and soreness.
“She was down on me for a while, so I’ve just been riding green ones,” Muniz said. “She’s always solid. I was cowboying on her and she got abscesses in her feet and her back was out. I took her to one jackpot and placed on her and then she started limping, so I turned her out and brought her back up and legged her up and got her ready for this pretty much.”
Regensberg has been around and roped with Muniz since he was a young kid and was humbled to be able to secure a big win with him.
“We’ve been good friends all along,” Regensberg said. “I’m friends with his dad and mom. I’m pretty proud of this guy.”
