William "Lane" Smyer was born March 16, 1986, in Deming, New Mexico, to Richard and Janet Smyer.
He moved with his parents and siblings to Prescott, Arizona, at the age of 2, when his parents purchased the Prescott Livestock Auction. Lane grew up helping his parents at the salebarn and on the ranch. He was a great Cowboy and great with horses. He began roping before he was 10 and was a member of the Arizona Junior Rodeo Association for years. He loved team roping and made so many friends along the way.
Lane had a huge personality and an even bigger heart. He would help anyone he could. He loved his family fiercely, especially his nieces and nephews. He loved good food, good music, and watching movies.
Unfortunately, Lane fell into addiction, and he battled it until it ultimately took him from us. His family will miss him forever. He lost the battle on February 9, 2026, at the age of 39 years old.
Lane is survived by his daughter, Emma Fletcher, his parents, Richard and Janet Smyer, his siblings, Lee Smyer, Lindsay Roskopf (Donny), and Lucas Smyer (Kayla), his nephews, Layson Smyer, Lynden Smyer, Riley Roskopf, Blake Roskopf, Tyler Bussie, Carson Bussie, Wyatt Smyer, and Royce Smyer and his nieces, Leksi Smyer, Kaitlyn Roskopf, Bella Roskopf, and Averi Smyer. He is also survived by his siblings by choice, Juve Astorga, Cesar Astorga, Ruben Astorga, Cindy Chavez, Marrisa Chavez, and Nancy Chavez.
