The team is taking home $407,000 back to Arizona.
In the highest-paying roping of the Ariat World Series of Team Roping Finale, Arizona's Garrett Lefebvre and Clancy Wilkerson topped the leaderboard, running four steers in 32.71 seconds to win $407,000.
By the time the dust settled, the magnitude of the win was still sinking in.
"I'm pretty lost for words," Lefebvre said. "It's an unreal feeling. I mean, that's what we all come here to do, and anybody can win it, and it just so happened to be us."
"I'm probably going to have to get ahold of my accountant and see what we need to do," Wilkerson joked. "I need some professional advice before I do something stupid."
The Arizona duo stayed consistent throughout the first three rounds, with times of 8.16, 8.15 and 8.19 seconds to earn a spot in the short round.
"We just went out and did what we knew how to do and were just consistent with it," Lefebvre said. "We didn't do anything crazy."
According to Wilkerson, the second steer tested their teamwork.
"I had a little trouble in the box," he said. "I was way late and he just stood that steer up in the corner until right before I got there. There's not many headers that are going to do that and take care of you like that."
From second high call, their 8.21-second short-round run sealed the deal.
"I thought it was weird, but I just had this calmness that came over me on that last steer," Wilkerson said. "I just kept telling myself, you put in the work, you put in the prep, you belong here and you can do it."
"I'm usually the nervous type," Lefebvre said. "But I was surprisingly calm. I just blurred it all out and was just like, go do what you know to do."
Lefebvre rode Leroy, a 16-year-old buckskin he's owned for several years.
"I got him from a guy named Caleb Davis, who I've never met," Lefebvre said. "I just couldn't be more thankful to ride him."
Wilkerson heeled on Biz, registered as Papas Lil Hand, a mare with deep family ties.
"She's got a special place in our hearts," Wilkerson said.
Friends for years, the pair only started entering together recently—but the trust was already there.
"I had all the confidence in the world in Clancy," Lefebvre said.
"I've always got room for Garrett," Wilkerson added.
