Ariat WSTR Riata Open to the World Finale Champions: Coy Rahlmann and Logan Medlin
It was a $100,000 payday for Coy Rahlmann and Logan Medlin.
Coy Rahlmann of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Logan Medlin of Tatum, New Mexico, took home $100,000 after roping six head in 37.58 seconds to win the Ariat World Series of Team Roping Riata Open to the World Finale.
The win marked the team's first together, and they shared during their victory lap that they'll be hitting the ProRodeo road as partners in 2026.
"I'm very excited to get to win with a guy we just started roping," Medlin said. ". Whenever you have wins like this, that just breeds confidence; that's not something that only helped us today, but that can help us at Spanish Fork in the middle of July."
"It's exciting to win something like this with a new partner," Rahlmann added.
Both NFR qualifiers missed the 2025 Finals, making this victory that much sweeter.
"It plays a big factor when you rodeo all year and don't make the NFR," Medlin said. "To have a roping like this where you can still win $50,000 a man—it means a lot."
They came from third high callback after runs of 6.13, 7.03, 6.32, 6.21 and 5.85 seconds, sealing the deal with a 6.04-second short round run.
"I went into this roping going to try to rope as aggressive as I could without messing up," Rahlmann said. "I went into it with the mentality of roping trying to win instead of roping trying not to lose."
"Maybe the one that I thought stood out the most on how good of a job Coy did was the last steer we ran," Medlin said. "That steer kind of took off and came over to the left, but he just picks him off from right there; it made my job very easy."
Rahlmann credited his gray gelding Goose for helping him stay sharp.
"Goose will never sell for any amount of money," Rahlmann said. "He's helped me step up my game. You can't replace one like him."
Medlin was aboard Cantina (TRR Freckles Holidoc), the 2016 gelding by the late Riata stallion Pepcid out of SR Pretty Playboy, and the 2023 Heel Horse of the BFI.
"He's been a blessing," Medlin said. "When the chips are down, I know exactly what I'm getting when I ride him."
Looking ahead, the new team plans to build on their momentum with runs at Denver, Fort Worth and San Antonio.
