KR "Popeye" Boultinghouse passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024, in Temple, Texas at the age of 86. He was born on April 20, 1938, to Austin Raymond "Saud" Boultinghouse and Ada Lee Parisher Boultinghouse in Cherokee, Texas.
Popeye grew up hunting and fishing on the Cherokee Creek in Cherokee Tx. He was lucky enough to have 3 beautiful girls with his first wife, Charlotte. Then he spent 55 years with Jan Yates Boultinghouse where he was blessed with another beautiful daughter and son. He decided to become a team roper at the age of 37. He soon became known for his "one swing" and having an eye for talented horses. He made many lifelong friends that he cherished in the rodeo world. He loved to teach and helped anyone willing to work at roping. He and Jan opened their home to many aspiring team ropers, with several of them becoming World Champions, and many more were National Finals Rodeo qualifiers. His next endeavor was golfing, which he poured an equal amount of energy into and made more special friends. He had a bad shoulder that ended his golf career which was cut short by injuries sustained from being run down by a barrel racer. So he got a bulldozer and started clearing brush at the ranch. He was taking down cedars and tearing up equipment with a vengeance until the age of 85. He made many pastures beautiful and productive in the process.
Popeye is survived by his wife of 55 years Jan Y. Boultinghouse, one brother Ron (Debbie) Boultinghouse, and 5 children: Patti (Linn) Owen, Chris (Ricky) Maddox, Tammy (Randy) Henderson, Kenna (Brad) Squires, and Donny (Marcie) Boultinghouse. His 14 grandchildren include: Will (Shele) Owen, Justine (Wes) Holmes, Coney (Mickey) Hanley, Crystal (Jason) Mendl, Roddy (Amy) Maddox, Tyler (Kari) Owen, Travis (Sara) Corsi, Tucker Corsi, Shelby (Rhett) Ridling, and Jadeanne, River, Jean, Vernon and James Boultinghouse. Also his 18 great-grandchildren: Cooper and Cason Owen, Landri and Haize Holmes, Payton, Preston, and Parker Hanley, Kate and Carter Mendl, Seeley, Stevie, Sadie and Sunny Maddox, Ella and Jaxon Owen, Valley Corsi and her expected baby sister, and Dylan and Rafe Ridling, and many nieces and nephews Popeye is also survived by his best sidekick Missy, his loyal dachshund dog.
