The 2022 Ariat World Series of Team Roping began with the American Rodeo Open World Finale where the professionals of the sport gathered to become champions of the 3rd annual prestigious event. The American Rodeo through its sponsorship added $50,000 to the payout in addition to naming the event its Wild Card round qualifying nine teams for its March $1M Rodeo event. The anticipation of the American Open Finale was palpable as all year long teams have been vying for the top spots at American Contender Tournament Semifinals ropings throughout the country. At six stops throughout the year, each with $10,000 added, teams that did not place in the top two at those ropings were all on site to not only cash in at the $50,000 added Finale, but also gain one of the top-9 places that would advance them on to one of the three American Regional Finals rodeos, each with $40,000 added.
Jake Cooper Clay of Sapulpa, OK on the head side and Kollin VonAhn of Blanchard, OK cleaning up the heels, outperformed the rest of the field of tough competitors to take the championship. Their time of 38.12 seconds on six head earned them the 2022 American Rodeo Open World Series Finale title, $100,000 in cash and beautiful prizes from WSTR's amazing sponsors and a chance to move on to the American Rodeo.
