Douglas Alfred Miller was born January 11,1940 and God took him home on
September 20, 2022.
Doug ranched in the Pecos, Texas area his entire life. He ran a
conditioning feedyard in Pecos which handled the vast majority of the thousands
of Nelson Bunker Hunt cattle for many years.
He had a sincere love of roping and started roping calves at a young
age, which eventually evolved into steer tripping. As time passed his interest
shifted to team roping and he was regular fixture at USTRC and World Series Team Ropings the past ten years. He was a regular at the pay window and even
won the 8.5 division at the US Finals in 2018.
But his love of rodeo and roping eventually became a civic project that
he spearheaded. Pecos Texas is one of the cities that claims the first ever
rodeo. Doug felt it would be fitting that Pecos should actively promote their
claim. What started out as a recognition project turned into a full fledge
effort to build a rodeo history museum, a funding request that eventually led
to the community donating millions of dollars into the renovation and
refurbishing Of the Texas Trailways Depot. And finally, the relocation of the
Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame to Pecos, TX. Doug took tremendous pride in the
Hall.
He was preceded in death by his parents Buck and Edith Miller, his
grandparents Mr. and Mrs. DD Dean, his sister Sis Miller, and his brother Mikey
Miller.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Glena Miller, his
daughter Deena Ann Miller-Jones and her husband James Jones, his son David
Allen Miller, their wonderful mother Barbara Nelson, who gave him his precious
children, his step-children Trey and Amy Miller, Jim and Trudi Miller, and
Robin Miller Paul and Toby Paul, his precious grandchildren Michael Miller,
Landon Gill, Jimmy and Imelda Miller, Montgomery Miller, Steven Miller, and
William Miller, Charlie Branch, the son Doug and Glena never had together, his
other adopted daughters Michelle Strain and her daughter Larkin Strain, Genessa
Avera, and Amy Compton. This is a time of sorrow, but also a time of survival
and laughter.
