Jerry Speer was
invited on Wednesday, November 15th, to the greatest buffet and the
most beautiful mansion Jesus promised us. Memorial Service will be held
on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 2:00 pm at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton
St., Clovis, NM.
Jerry was what was made when John Wayne met the
Marlboro man. He was the ultimate cowboy. He embraced every moment,
every ride. He lived life large.
The talent he possessed on
horseback was matched by none. His knowledge was the kind learned the
hard way; shaped by the best cattleman bred in the bush country of South
Texas. Then sharpened by the toughest men who pushed cattle through the
deepest Northern New Mexico snow. He went on to share his knowledge and
passion with everyone.
He perfected his trade in the ring of every
sale barn in the country. It's been said that if Joe Rios owned 50,000
head of horses, Jerry Speer rode every one of them through a sale ring.
He
was a true friend, one that could always be found. The first to answer
any call from anyone. He never knew a stranger and was known to adopt a
few. He loved a full table, full bellies, and never had an empty house.
He was a #1 fan of every activity for all of his children!
He
cherished his wife, Toby, to whom he was reconnected with on Facebook.
On their first date, January 2011, he blatantly stated, "So when are you
gonna marry me?" The two were married July 3rd, 2011, and were in love
every moment since. For 12 wonderful years, they held hands, every day.
He died with his boots on, doing what he loved, and will live on a legend in the hearts of all.
Jerry
is survived by his loving wife; Toby, his children; Kelly and Karl
Rios, and their children; Vida Kay and Joe Cruz, Coy and Jasmine Speer,
their mother; Fawna Lee Abel, his children, TymberLee and Tyler Hight,
Dalon "Peanut" and Jenny Williams, and their children; Lillian Fe and
Lainey Mae, Jerry's mother; Sarah Speer, his sister, and brother-in-law;
Paula and Rodney Chitty, his brother and sister-in-law; Bobby and Tawna
Speer, his brother-in-law; Skip Masar, his brother-in-law; Holt, and
Jacquie Durham.
He will be dearly missed by numerous beloved nieces
and nephews, family, and friends, and any and all 'strays' that quickly
became family.
He was preceded in death by his father; Ralph Speer,
his mother-in-law; Donna Durham, his sister; Suzy Masar, and his
honorary daughter; Liberty Downey.
