Arvie Dean (Corky) Wade was born March 6, 1944, on the Langford Ranch
northeast of Byers, Texas, the third son of Otto and Allene Daniel Wade.
He went to his heavenly home on Sunday morning, June 11, 2023 at
Wichita Falls, TX.
He was given the nickname Corky when he was a baby and it stayed with
him throughout life. He had older brothers Sherrell and Charles and
later a younger brother Bill.
The family moved to Oklahoma where he completed first grade at Claypool
and then back to Byers where he finished grades 2-12, graduating in
1962. He participated in basketball, baseball, FFA, and boxing.
On July 23, 1965, He and the former Judy Lockwood were married at the
First Baptist Church in Ringling. They made their home in Byers where
Corky worked at various jobs until 1968 when he went to work full time for
the Langford Ranch and the couple welcomed the light of their lives,
their daughter Deana Lynn, on June 20, 1968.
In 1971 they moved to the ranch and stayed until 1986 when Corky went to
work for Clay County Precinct One. He retired in 2006 as Road Foreman
after 20 years.
In the 70's Sherrell, Charles and Corky started team roping and soon
Corky and Charles and their families were traveling each weekend to
rodeos and jackpots. They belonged to various team roping associations.
They traveled from Amarillo to Fort Smith, Arkansas, Waco to Hutchinson,
Kansas and many towns in between. They won money, buckles, saddles and
made life-long friendships. Charles was his mentor, but Sherrell was his
rock.
Corky was preceded in death by his wife Judy of 57 years, his parents
Otto and Allene Wade, brothers Charles and Bill, nephews Cody Wade and
Jeff Lockwood, in-laws Dock and Lois Lockwood, sister-in-law Peggy
Lockwood Chamberlain and her husband Leon.
He is survived by his daughter Deana Roberts and husband Tom of Byers,
brother and sister-in-law Sherrell and Dean Wade of Byers, sister-in-law
Lana Wade of Ringling, brother-in-law Sherle Lockwood of Ringling, Aunt
Ella Morris of Ringling and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
