Shane Barmby, 68 of Sacramento, California, had his last performance
on earth the morning of Thursday, October 27, 2022. Born to ranchers,
Bobby and Lucy Barmby, Shane was given the first name James. Along with
siblings Jeff and Judy, James completed the triple JJJ brand. Soon after
graduating from Elk Grove High School, he was married, and in 1974,
daughter Shaneen was born. Touring with Don Wilson and band Gun-shy as
early as age 15, he was a natural on the stage. His true passion was
continuing the legacy of his Rodeo Producer Grandfather, Bob Barmby.
Along with his father and brother who were both calf ropers, Shane
competed professionally for over 50 years until his health took a turn.
Along with competing in Rodeos, Shane worked professionally in the movie
business as a teamster, and a member of the Screen Actors Guild. He can
be seen as early as the 1980's appearing in film and TV shows such as
"Little House on the Prairie" and "Dallas" and he played the lead in the
"The Rick Nelson Story," on NBC TV. In 1986, Shane moved to Nashville,
TN where he toured with Randy Travis and received his first record deal
"Riding and Roping" in 1989. This album included the music video that
hit number one on Country Music Television. Recording contracts for
albums "Jukebox Symphony" and "Let's Talk about Us" would follow in the
early 1990's. Shane has written and recorded hundreds of songs based on
his life and love of music. He loved to entertain and would often
serenade family and friends with his gift of singing and playing the
guitar. "Cowboy Shane" as he was known by many fans will truly be
missed.
Shane is survived by his mother, Lucy; daughter, Shaneen; grandson, Tavi; niece, Jocelynn; nephew, Blandon and many cousins.
