Jim Bynum, 70, of Forreston Tx passed away Sunday September 25, 2022. He was born to Jimmie Faye and Al Bynum on December 16th 1951 in Ellis County.
Jim graduated from Waxahachie High School and then went to Sul Ross University on a rodeo scholarship.
Jim grew up in the Waxahachie area known as " Little" Jim in deference to his late uncle hall of fame steer wrestler "Big" Jim. But to those outside the local area he was definitely "Big" Jim. Although large in stature, his personality was larger. If you are wondering if you ever met him, you didnt' - because you would have remembered. He lived life to the fullest and was rarely inconspicuous. He was a lifetime member of the PRCA and world class steer wrestler, although he rarely competed outside the Lonsestar Circuit. He loved team roping and competed in USTRC, OTRA, 40+ and World Series of Team Roping events. Although he roped recreationally, in 2015 he ended the season with a 5th place win at the World Series Finale in Las Vegas, winning the largest check of his life. He was a true cowboy, rancher, and cattleman. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He recently purchased a ranch in northern NM and was looking forward to some special hunts.
He had that deep "Sam Elliot" voice that could be intimidating, but without cause. He had humorous charm, and loving personality. He loved Jesus, life and all people.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Renata, several cousins and countless friends.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be sent in memory of Jim to Campfire Creek Therapeutic Riding Center at 767 Bethel Rd Waxahachie TX 75167.
