Mel Smith, Tolar, TX and Tony Lang,
Tolar, TX, showed they have nerves of steel, winning the #10.5 Heartland in
Decatur, TX on March 4th. Smith and Lang were the high team back,
only needing 12.53 seconds on their final steer to take home the win. Instead
of taking the safe road, they roped their last steer in smoking fast 7.97
seconds, giving them a time of 34.82 on 4 head, beating their competition by
over 4.5 seconds. They took home $21,000 along with Cactus Saddlery Trophy
Saddles and pads, and Gist Silversmith HL Champion Buckles. The $2,000 short go
fast time not placing in the average came from Clay Armstrong and Donnie Ward
from the 16th call back position, with a time of 7.75 in the short
round. Congratulations to all of the winners, this event paid out $84,800 not
