Ray Lord 1941 - 2021


Delbert Raymond “Sporty” Lord, 79, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on Tuesday January 26, 2021.  Born on July 22, 1941, in Yellowstone, Wyoming, He was the son of the late Irene and Chuck Strock.   Ray is survived by his only daughter Shannon Lord Matheson, husband Ken, two grandsons Kyle and Gavin all of Mesa, AZ;

Ray was devoted to family, work and friends.  He loved being Papa to his two grandsons. He loved his job and co-workers at DBA Construction where he worked on and off during semi-retirement.  Ray also enjoyed his many friends in the rodeo and team roping world and he especially enjoyed spending his free time watching his daughter and son-in law rope.  He always loved his trips to Vegas to watch them rope and try his luck at the tables.    

Ray moved to Arizona in 1960 after attending high school in Kaycee Wyoming.  He worked riding and breaking colts and honing his skills in the bronc riding.  While working in Tucson, he met the love of his life Sandi and was married in Kelly, Wyoming in June of 1966. 

Ray has touched numerous kid’s lives through, his love of Judging Jr rodeos, High School rodeos and College rodeos.  Ray’s was always available to support rodeo kids whom he housed and mentored over the years. 

Ray was loved by so many and we will Celebrate Ray’s life in the coming months.
