American Cowboy Ropings Half-Time Adjustments

We are about halfway through The 2020 RFD TV’s  The American Cowboy Roping season and there is good and bad news . As of mid-August 15, 26 teams have qualified for the current pool of $186,000 and ropers have received $75,000 in prepayments.  The American Rodeo events all pay $190,000 last year and we are very close to being equal to that with six months to go. Last year prior to the matches around 60 teams were in the hunt for over $700,000.

The AC 12.5 is struggling a little. The turn out, in most locations, hits the minimum with currently 12 teams in the hunt for $53,000, and ropers have won $22,000 in prepayments. No doubt by the end this season we will be well over $100,000. Comparing this to the 10.5 might make it look weak, but consider a couple of facts. The current $53,000 is roughly equivalent to the PRCA aggregate of Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Understanding that only 12 teams have a shot at this money right now, comparing to one of the best rodeos of the land, we are still good.

The inaugural event was so successful and easy that everyone expected a lot of momentum in season two. While 80% of the events have reached the minimum team participation, about 20% in the 10.5 have not, and roughly 50% in the 12.5 have not.  It appears, in those instances, that ropers are not supporting the program for a few reasons.  Number one would be not having enough money or the inclination to enter two 10.5’s or two 12.5’s. Second, in geographic areas far from Dallas, most said they do not want to drive to Dallas, which stands to reason since the Texas qualifiers have been pretty good. There have been other reasons, like lack of understanding the program, so we are going to make the half-time adjustment to address a few concerns right now.

1.     We can’t change the price or remove the choice of entering division two times at the qualifiers, but what we can do is sweeten the pot. Effective for this season’s events, all qualified teams will also receive WSTR qualification spots as long as the entry is paid by Sep 30. This is retro-active to all AC qualified teams. These are and will be easy qualifiers.

2.     All matches between qualified teams will be conducted at the NFTR, NTRL Finals, and World Series Finale in Vegas. We will have provisions for teams that qualify  AFTER those three events. ONLY FOUR TEAMS in each of the divisions will travel to Dallas and all will be in RFD’s The American, all will be guaranteed big checks! So that should eliminate the concerns over traveling to Dallas.

3.    Silver Bracket was confusing to some, so new SIMPLE plan. Any team placing more than once ( 2nd,3rd and beyond) is qualified. Example: 3rd place at their first American, then a second place one a month later and they are in. Two checks guarantee a qualification spot.

4.     Qualification Ropings at the NFTR in OKC, WSTR in Las Vegas, and NTR in Florida, will be special events and have special features. We will be announcing those shortly.

Ropers can find all the rules for RFD’s the American Cowboy Team Ropings at WSTRoping.com and USTRC.com. This includes a current listing of qualified teams.
