WSTR Qualification EVENTS

1.1 Qualification Ropings - WSTR sets the guidelines for independent contractors to produce qualification ropings throughout the year giving members an opportunity to win their way to the Grand Finale in Las Vegas. Contractors producing qualifiers are limited to a 20% stock charge, with the exception of the #8 division which shall be 30% during its first year. They are not required to provide prizes although many do. The 80% payback, provides ropers with the means to acquire prizes through the association prize program where none are provided by the qualification roping. Qualification ropings are on-site cash payment entry ropings, where ropers may enter at the event, prior to the start of the roping they wish to enter. Contractors do require “ cash only” at on-site entry ropings, and is advertised in advance, some accept credit card payments.

1.2 Divisions – There are seven divisions at a WS qualification roping, the #15, #13, #12, #11, #10, #9, and #8. The #11 is capped at a #6 Elite heeler, the #10 division is capped at a #6 for heelers,  the #9 is capped at a 5 Elite heeler, and the #8 is capped at 4 Elite on either end. The #15 division will have no age cap, but all other divisions have a 21 year-old age minimum.

1.3 Formats – Formats for the 15, 13, 12, 11, 10 and 9 qualification ropings will be enter twice, four head aggregates, progressive after one. Format for the #8 roping will be pick or draw format enter three times. After winning, any TEAM winning a minimum of $5000 is qualified to enter that particular Finale division. Although individual ropers will be allowed to enter twice at qualifiers with different partners, no roper may enter a single division at any Finale more than ONCE. Qualification ropings will be progressive ropings occurring at local arenas. Ropers placing together are allowed to split creating two teams at the Finale, however, the guest are required to pay the full entry fee unless one of the team members receives a classification increase during the year and has not choice but to split. If one member of a qualification team decides not to attend the Finale, the remaining partner may select a replacement partner, provided that partner has attended a qualification roping during the year or attended a previous Finale event. Any qualification exceptions for special fees ropings will be announced in advertisements, example, "all teams placing in a Heartland, including consolation, excluding go-rounds, will be qualified".

1.4 Entries and entry disqualification – To participate in a WSTR qualification event, each roper must comply with all association membership requirements as listed under the Membership section of this website. Participation in the event by a roper who does not have a current WSTR or USTRC membership card or has not submitted an application for a new card or for renewal of a card that has expired prior to an event, will result in disqualification of roper and the roper’s teammate. No member of a disqualified team shall be entitled to receive any prize or winnings, however, the member of the disqualified team that has a current membership shall be entitled to a refund of entry fee. The member of the disqualified team without a current membership shall not be entitled to receive a refund of his/her entry fee. By submitting an entry for an event, the roper is representing that he/she is in compliance with this rule. Acceptance of entry fees for this event by WSTR shall not constitute a waiver of the requirement set forth in this rule.

1.4.1 Up and Back - In ropings where ropers are allowed to enter more than once, ropers are permitted to enter “Up and Back” - (switching ends with same partner).

1.5 Qualification Positions Reserved  - At times during the year you may see announcements that certain divisions at the Grand Finale are full and no entries are being taken. This means that all positions reserved for Legacy teams, or direct entry (waiting list teams) are full. This does not mean that entries are closed for qualified teams. World Series reserves Grand Finale positions for winners at the qualification ropings, and in fact we reserve positions in every division for every qualification roping on our schedule.

1.6 Qualification Payoff  - Payoffs will be paid on straight calculations, 20% commission (exception #8)

1.7 Go Round Money in Short Round  - A fast time check of $1,000 will be paid to the fastest time in the short round of any short round of a qualifier that has 101 or more teams. The winner of this fast time check shall not be a team who places in the aggregate unless there are no teams who caught a steer and did not place in the aggregate. In that instance the Fast time check would go to the fastest time of the teams that DID place in the aggregate. Under NO circumstances will this short-round check be paid to the fastest on three head, or a team that did not catch in the short round.

1.8 Declaring Finale Entry  - During the time of payoff, teams who have placed in the average and won a minimum of $5000 should be given an entry form to enter the Finale or may download a form at the website WSTRoping.com. If they decide to accept the Finale entry, they may pay on the spot or they are allowed 30 days to make their decision before they forfeit the discounted qualification entry price. Ropers placing together are allowed to split creating two teams, however, the guest is required to pay the full entry fee, unless one of the team members receives a number increase during the roping season.  The discount is afforded to this replacement partner because of a number increase provided his/her fees are paid within 30 days of the number increase. Qualification ropings occurring in October, November and December will qualify for the following roping year.  They can enter at the discount provided their fees are paid no later than January 30th of the following year. Under no circumstances will winnings from a qualified team be counted as accumulated earnings. The thirty-day limit shall not be bypassed for accumulated earnings.
