Ray Lynn “Slim” Berry (1940 - 2015)


 Services for Ray Lynn "Slim" Berry, 75, of Weed, NM, are set for 1 p.m., Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Sheriff's Posse Arena in Carlsbad, NM. Interment will follow at the Carlsbad Cemetery (new section). Visitation will be 1-8 pm Thursday at West Funeral Home.  
Slim died following a short illness on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX.
He was born August 1, 1940, in Tulia, TX to the home of Jack and Katherine Berry. He attended Tulia Public Schools, where he played center on the football team, and graduated from Tulia High School in 1958. He attended South Plains College and rodeoed extensively throughout Texas and New Mexico, riding bareback horses and saddle broncs.
While at South Plains, Slim met Linda Rogers and they married October 3, 1964. He began his career in construction as a carpenter and he and Linda moved to Carlsbad, NM, where he was a partner in Horton and Berry Construction. He was a supervisor for Richardson and Richardson Construction. Slim and Linda founded Kandu Construction in 1986 and he continued to work in the construction field until his passing.
A loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather, he was an avid team roper and hunter. He thoroughly enjoyed attending the games and activities of his grandchildren and spending holidays with family.
Slim is survived by his wife Linda Berry of Weed, NM; a daughter, Lisa Stinnett of Fort Sumner, NM (Scot); two sons, Bill Berry of Carlsbad (Denise) and Ken Berry of Clovis (Wendie); and his grandchildren, Berry Stinnett (Aubri Rizo), Caitlan Berry, Sarah Stinnett, Cody Berry, Daley Woodard, Haley Berry (Kurt Frazier) and Emily Berry.
He is also survived by his sisters, Frances Doyal of Amarillo, TX and Debra Cook (Doug) of White Deer, TX; a brother, Corky Berry of Tulia, TX; and his nieces and nephews; Mike Doyal, Teresa Doyal, Crystal Fouquet, Ryan Cook, Karl Berry, Carmen Jessop, Celia Gibbs, Donnie Holligan, Darrell Holligan, David Holligan and Dale Holligan. Also surviving is his brother-in-law, Rodney Rodgers (Katharine).
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lafon Holligan; his mother, Katherine Berry; and his father, Jack Berry.
Pallbearers are Berry Stinnett, Cody Berry, Malcolm McCarty, Travis Eldridge, Limey Riley, Tel Trammell and Bo Norton.
Honorary Pallbearers are Scott Higgins, Randy Rogers, Terry Rogers, Wayne Brazeal, all his many colleagues in the construction field and his numerous team roping buddies.
