#13 Heartland Pays $227,000

Hamilton, TX – August 29th, 30th, and 31st

This was another Texas mega qualifier, and the story line reads pretty much the same as the recent Stephenville qualifier………..huge roping, hot, and a mad scramble by the contractor to keep enough cattle. But that too shall pass.

The biggest winners by far were the Heartland 13 winners , Randy Holcomb, Luling, TX and Kyle Stamps, Harwood, TX, taking home $42,060 of the $227,000 payoff.

Most was certainly not the way WSTR envisioned small, easy, big paying qualifiers. The large payoffs are still there but all that other stuff seems to be gone for most of the central Texas ropings. These events require two arenas and have the staff over here at the main office trying to come up with solutions to relieve the stress on everyone and make them more fun.

The Stephenville roping caused an internet stir with the internet video of a roper losing the front out of his saddle in a short round…Hamilton not to be out done had its own excitement. The second high call heeler in the #9, Derrick Simmons, cut his thumb off on the run.  This was a momentary disruption as Derrick went back to the horn and finished the dally for 15th place.  Obviously the final steer was postponed for a while.
