Kenneth "Kenny" Smith 1935-2014

 

 Kenneth "Kenny" Smith Sr., 79, of Hobbs, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014, at the Landsun Health Service Center.

 

Kenneth Mark Smith was born April 15, 1935, in Slaton, Texas, to Mark and Ann (Davidson) Smith and resided in Lea and Eddy County for 79 years.

 

Kenny graduated from Lovington High School in 1953 and attended Sul Ross State University. While at Sul Ross, Kenny met Patsy Espy, the girl who was to become his wife and lifelong partner. In May of 2014 they celebrated their 58thwedding anniversary.

 

Kenny is survived by his spouse, Pat Smith; sons: Ken and wife Margo Smith and Wayne Smith; daughter Jana Smith; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister Lora Nell Glenn and husband Jeff and brother Bill Smith and wife Nancy.

 

Kenny was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Eddy County Sherriff's Posse, AQHA, New Mexico Cattle Growers. Kenny enjoyed raising good cattle and horses and most of all his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame, NM Boys/Girls Ranch, or First Presbyterian Church (Carlsbad).
