Heartland 10 pays $180,000
Largest Qualifier Ever!
Stephenville, TX – July 25,26, 26,
Most certainly we have had some huge qualifiers in Arizona and Texas over the years with divisions that topped the 400 team mark, but this particular Stephenville broke the event record. Well over 2000 teams for the weekend with the qualifiers averaging 400 per roping. I it is even more unlikely that this could happen in the middle of July?
The heat was the big story, which at times hovered around 110. Shelley productions shuttled out one full load of sorts Friday night and another load on Saturday night, as the heat shredded the event cattle. According to Troy Nick Coats brought in a full load that saved the day.
Another story, Ray Douglas ropes tied on, yanked the swells completely off his saddle in the short round of the Heartland 10. Heartland 10 was a really good one paying out $180,000. Mathew Neff and Rene Cervantes leading wire to wire , winning 1st in the average , one go-round and second in another round for a total of $39,750. The performance of young Neff was sure to put the TRIAD boys scrambling. The performance numbers going into the computer probably had it smoking by the time this roping was over. But no doubt this was the win of a lifetime for Matthew and Rene, and regardless of Matthews looming handicap change, they did a great job.
